  • Burqa On Statue Of Liberty? How MAGA Is Fuming Over Zohran Mamdani’s

Zohran Mamdani is a Muslim of Gujarati ancestry and far-right social media politicians and users have been sharing Islamophobic posts against him. Marjorie Taylor Greene, US representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district since 2021, was one of them.Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic socialist just won New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary, and MAGA supporters are not chuffed. New York governor Andrew Cuomo, conceded defeat overnight, and if elected, Mamdani would be the first Indian-American and Muslim mayor in the history of New York City.

However, because he is a Muslim of Gujarati ancestry, far-right social media politicians and users have been sharing Islamophobic posts against him. Marjorie Taylor Greene, US representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district since 2021, was one of them. The post shows a digitally altered picture of the Statue of Liberty covered in a black burqa. Another MAGA supporter, Don Keith shared the picture with the caption, “Congratulations New York”. Nancy Mace, the US representative for South Carolina’s 1st congressional district since 2021, shared a photo of Mamdani in a kurta pajama, and captioned it as, “After 9/11 we said “Never Forget.” I think we sadly have forgotten.”Apart from Republican politicians, users rushed to comment on the scenario, with one user writing, NYC in 2001: We will never forget! NYC in 2025: Elects Muslim jihadist! NYC in 2040: Obey Sharia Law or leave! NYC in 2060: Convert to Islam or die!”, and another saying, “The stupidity of NYC voting for their own demise! While the Jihadist might have won the primary as the Democrat candidate, it doesn’t mean he’s going to be mayor! But if he in fact does win, DOOM on those who blindly opted to vote for their own city’s downfall!”

  • Black Box Of Crashed Air India Plane In India, Being Examined: Minister

The London-bound Air India plane crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12.Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Tuesday said the black box of the Air India plane, which crashed in Ahmedabad earlier this month, was being examined by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, and dismissed speculation that it would be sent abroad for an inquiry.

The London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport there on June 12 afternoon, killing 270 persons, including 241 on board. One passenger survived.

The black box of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane was recovered from the site on June 13.

A black box is a small device that records information about an aircraft during its flight. It helps in the investigation of aviation accidents.

Asked about some media reports suggesting the black box would be sent abroad for a probe into the incident, Mr Naidu said, “…it is all speculation. The black box is very much in India, and it is currently being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).”To a query on when the black box data is expected to be retrieved, the minister said it is a very technical matter.

“Let the AAIB conduct the probe and go through the entire process,” he added.

Mr Naidu was speaking here on the sidelines of the Helicopters & Small Aircraft Summit 2025, organised by FICCI jointly with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

A high-level panel has been set up to investigate the causes of the Ahmedabad plane crash, and the investigation is progressing smoothly, the government said after the incident.

“Decoding the black box is going to give an in-depth insight into what happened moments before the plane crash,” Mr Naidu had earlier said.

  • Unable To Sleep’: 14 Days Later, Residents Around Ahmedabad Airport Still Gripped By Fear

Every five minutes, a plane flies overhead. The sound and sight of aircraft were once part and parcel of their daily life. Now, it’s a terrifying reminder. The ground on which they stood shook suddenly – so did their homes. Windows and doors swung open as the Air India flight crashed just 20 metres away from their houses in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad.

London-bound Air India flight AI-171, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on June 12. Tragically, all but one passenger lost their lives, along with nearly 29 people on the ground, when the plane went down on the BJ Medical College hostel complex immediately after take-off.Since June 12, the lives of the residents of the Gujarat Housing Board in Meghaninagar – who live in the vicinity of the Air India crash site – have changed forever.

    ‘Unable To Sleep’

The residents now live in perpetual fear, suffering full-blown panic attacks since the day of the crash. Hundreds of planes fly over their housing society every day to and from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. Their houses lie directly in the flight path – every five minutes, a plane flies overhead. The sound and sight of aircraft were once part and parcel of daily life. That fateful day, however, the Air India flight had an unusual sound – and it was flying low.

First, it hit a tall tree inside the BJ Medical College hostel complex before crashing into the hostel mess and the Atulyam hostel blocks.

“We are scared. We want to be relocated somewhere else, or the planes should be flown via another route,” say Kishanbhai and his wife Maniben. Kishanbhai is still nursing burn wounds, sustained while running in confusion and shock after the plane crashed.Sonalben, who lives on the third floor of the housing society with her husband and two sons, said, “I was making rotis when I heard a loud sound accompanied by my room shaking. The floor became extremely hot, and so did everything else. I ran out with my son, as my husband and the other son were out…Since then, I haven’t been able to sleep. I tremble with fear every time a flight passes by.”

In another building nearby, Birendra Trivedi, who works with Metro Rail, said, “There are more than 40 children in my building. Most of them start crying at night after hearing the sound of planes since the crash.”

“Cargo planes make more noise,” says Vikram Singh Parmar, who runs a grocery shop and has lived here since 1961. “It was an accident. It won’t happen every day,” he adds.

  • In Air India Crash Probe Breakthrough, Data Downloaded From ‘Black Boxes’

This means we are now a (giant) step closer to understanding why AI 171, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed 36 seconds after take-off, killing 241 people on the plane and 34 on the ground.Information from the black boxes recovered from the June 12 Air India plane crash has been successfully downloaded and is being analysed, the government said Thursday afternoon.

The black boxes – a flight data recorder, or FDR, and a cockpit voice recorder, or CVR – were damaged in the crash and there were questions over the recovery of usable data. Last week sources told NDTV the government may send the FDR and CVR to the United States for forensic extraction of data.

However, in a big breakthrough, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has succeeded in safely extracting the Crash Protection Module, or CPM, and the memory module, and downloaded the data.

The government said both boxes – one found on the rooftop of the hostel into which the plane crashed and the other from the debris – were securely transported to the AAIB lab in Delhi on Tuesday. The first black box reached the lab at 2pm. The second at 5.15pm.

The data extraction began the same day and was completed by Wednesday.

CVR data is expected to shed light on cockpit conversations, crew responses, and ambient sounds, while the FDR contains parameters like altitude, airspeed, flight control inputs, and engine performance.

“Analysis of CVR and FDR data underway. These efforts aim to reconstruct sequence of events leading to the accident and identify contributing factors to enhance aviation safety,” the government said.

  • A Mother-Daughter Love Triangle In Telangana. Then A Marriage And A Murder

In a shocking revelation in the probe into a Telangana man’s murder a month after his wedding, police have found that Tejeswar’s wife Aishwarya and her lover Tirumal Rao discussed the Raja Raghuvanshi honeymoon killing in Meghalaya and considered making a similar plan to eliminate Tejeswar and keep the cops guessing.

According to Gadwal police chief T Srinivasa Rao, Aishwarya and Tirumal Rao have told them during questioning that they had initially planned to kill Tejeswar in the same manner as Raja Raghuvanshi. The plan was simple: Aishwarya would convince Tejeswar to take her out on a bike. On the way, the killers would attack them. Tejeswar would be murdered and Aishwarya would flee with Tirumal Rao. The cops, they thought, would be confused and chase a murder-cum-kidnapping angle. This is exactly how the Raja Raghuvanshi case played out, where Raja’s body was found and his wife, Sonam, remained missing for days before police eventually unearthed her role in the conspiracy. Aishwarya and Tirumal Rao, however, have said they discussed the plan but later shelved it and considered other options.

Police have also found that 23-year-old Aishwarya got a GPS device on her husband’s bike so that they could track his movements. They also hired a neighbour Mohan to monitor Tejeswar’s movements and report to them.

Eight people have been arrested in the case. These include Aishwarya, Tirumal Rao, her mother Sujatha, who is believed to have known about the plan to eliminate Tejeswar, Tirumal’s father, a former head constable who allegedly helped his son, three hired assassins Nagesh, Parshuram and Rajesh, the neighbour, who was tailing Tejeswar. Tejeshwar’s rotten body was found in a field at Panyam in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district on June 21, three days after his family in Telangana’s Gadwal reported that he was missing. It was only on the basis of a tattoo ‘Amma’ in Telugu on his forearm that he was identified.

The family suspected his newly-wed wife Aishwarya’s involvement in the killing. “We warned Tejeswar not to marry Aishwarya as she was said to be in a relationship with a bank manager, but she convinced Tejeswar that she was in love with him,” said Tejavardhan, elder brother of Tejeswar. “When he went missing, I was observing her, she did not shed a tear, no sadness, so I told the police my suspicions and they investigated,” he said.

  • He Looks Terrible”: Trump On New York’s Indian-Origin Mayor Candidate

Launching a personal attack on a 33-year-old self-declared socialist, Trump said Mamdani “looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart.”

US Donald Trump has weighed in on the victory of Indian-origin leftist socialist Zohran Mamdani in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary election, calling him a “100 per cent communist lunatic”.  Trump also criticised other progressive leaders who support Mamdani, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Senator Chuck Schumer, after former New York governor Andrew Cuomo conceded the election.

“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” the Republican said in a post on his Truth Social platform. Launching a personal attack on a 33-year-old self-declared socialist, Trump said Mamdani “looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”

In another post, he said, presumably jesting, that Democrats should nominate “Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President” to get back in play. He also said that democrats should put “AOC+3” – his term for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive Squad members – in Cabinet positions.

Mamdani– an Indian origin Muslim, who is the son of acclaimed Indian American filmmaker Mira Nair and an Indian-born Ugandan Marxist scholar Mahmood Mamdani– won the democratic race after former New York governor Andrew Cuomo conceded New York City’s mayoral primary election. Mamdani won 43.5 per cent of the vote, and 90 per cent of the ballots counted. If Mamdani wins the final race, he will become New York’s first Muslim mayor.

The son of Indian-origin immigrants, he is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America party — the kind of niche, leftist affiliation that many Democratic leaders believe their party needs to shed. The fact that Mamdani speaks out for Palestinians and has accused Israel of “genocide” also makes him a prime target for Trump.

His supporters include two favourite Trump foils — fiery leftist Senator Bernie Sanders and progressive congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Currently a New York state assemblyman representing the borough of Queens, Mamdani’s eye-catching policy proposals include freezing rent for many New Yorkers, free bus service, and universal childcare. In a city where a three-bedroom apartment can easily cost $6,000 a month, his message struck a chord.

  • Take Solid Step Now”: Javed Akhtar To Centre Over Pahalgam Attack

Lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar urged the central government to take strict action against Pakistan for their alleged connections to the recent inhumane terror attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

Javed Akhtar was invited to inaugurate the ‘Glorious Maharashtra Festival’, which was organised to commemorate Maharashtra’s foundation day on Thursday.

While addressing the politicians and other attendees at the Maharashtra Festival 2025, the Lyricist Javed Akhtar requested the Central Government to take “solid steps” against terrorism, as he believes that “a few crackers on the border” are still not enough for the lives lost in Pahalgam.Lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar urged the central government to take strict action against Pakistan for their alleged connections to the recent inhumane terror attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

While addressing the politicians and other attendees at the Maharashtra Festival 2025, the Lyricist Javed Akhtar requested the Central Government to take “solid steps” against terrorism, as he believes that “a few crackers on the border” are still not enough for the lives lost in Pahalgam. This has happened not just once but several times. I request that the Central Government take immediate steps. A few crackers on the border will not work. Take a solid step now. Do something so that the mad Army chief there (Pakistan), no sensible person can make a speech like he does. He says that Hindus and Muslims are different communities. He does not even care that there are Hindus in his country, too. So, do they have no respect? What kind of man is he? They should get a befitting reply so that they remember. They will not pay heed to anything less. I don’t know much about politics. But I do know that it is time for ‘aar ya paar,” said Javed Akhtar.

The noted screenwriter also remembered three tourists from Mumbai who lost their lives in a terror attack in Pahalgam.

“Sanjay Lele, Atul Mone & Hemant Joshi from this state were looking for a moment of peace and happiness. Perhaps they should not have done that. In search of that, they visited Pahalgam. They were mercilessly shot there. We should not forget this. This is nothing ordinary. Enemies and those who wish us evil have their eyes on Mumbai,” said Javed Akhtar.I went to Lahore for a literary festival. They were asking me good questions and I was answering. A woman got up and told me that Indians consider them (Pakistanis) terrorists. I told her that I am a resident of Mumbai and I have seen my city burning. Those who came to burn it did not come from Sweden or Egypt; those people are roaming freely in your city even today,” shared Javed Akhtar.

The lyricist also shared that India has always sought peace with Pakistan, but the neighbouring nation has refused to reciprocate.

“What happened in Pahalgam is something which keeps happening after a few days. It is sad. What has Mumbai or this country done to you? Be it the Congress Government or the BJP, it always tried to have good relations with the neighbours,” added lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Twenty-six people were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

  • “Gratitude To Indian Navy”: China On Swift Rescue Of Fire-Hit Cargo Ship

China has expressed gratitude to India for successfully rescuing the crew of the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel MV Wan Hai 503 that caught fire off the Kerala coast on June 9. Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India, Yu Jing, took to X and said that of the 22 people on board the vessel, 14 were Chinese nationals, as she thanked the Indian Navy and Mumbai Coast Guard for their prompt actions.

“On June 9, MV Wan Hai 503 encountered onboard explosion and fire 44 nautical miles off Azhikkal, Kerala. Of the total 22 crew members on board, 14 are Chinese, including 6 from Taiwan. Our gratitude goes to the Indian Navy and the Mumbai Coast Guard for their prompt and professional rescue,” Yu Jing wrote on X.Of the 22 crew members on board the ship, four people are missing, five were injured, while 18 others were rescued. China said it wishes further search operations to be successful, and the injured crew members have a speedy recovery.

The explosion occurred while the vessel was en route from Colombo to Nhava Sheva near Mumbai. It experienced an explosion in one of its containers, sparking a massive onboard fire while sailing roughly 70 nautical miles off Kozhikode. The vessel is currently adrift. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has activated its Search and Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT) to track possible drift patterns of containers, debris, or people who may have gone overboard. The INCOIS has also warned of a potential oil spill.

Though the exact quantity of any spillage is still unknown, forecast simulations suggest the oil would drift parallel to the coastline from June 10 through June 13, with continuous monitoring underway.

Local authorities have been urged to step up coastal surveillance and prepare communities for possible navigational or shoreline hazards.

  • Consulate Closely Monitoring Situation: India On US Immigration Crackdown

In the wake of an immigration crackdown by the Trump administration in California’s Los Angeles, India on Thursday said its consulate in San Francisco is closely monitoring the situation, even as it advised Indian nationals in the region to take “suitable” safety precautions.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during his weekly media briefing also said the consulate remains in “close touch with our community members for their welfare”.

He was asked if India was monitoring the current volatile situation in Los Angeles as the US administration has carried out an immigration crackdown in the area.

According to international reports, US National Guard troops and Marines have also been deployed.

“We are aware of the developments. As you aware, we take the safety, security, and welfare of our citizens abroad with utmost seriousness. The LA region, and California in general is home to a large community of Indians,” Jaiswal said.California, on the West Coast of the US, has a sizeable Indian population.
